“Avengers” Star Says She Was Groomed… To Be Famous

(HorizonPost.com) – During an appearance on the “Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi” podcast on Tuesday, Scarlett Johansson stated that she felt like she was “groomed” into becoming a “bombshell” actress during the early stages of her acting career.

Johansson said she did ‘Lost in Translation’ and ‘Girl With the Pearl Earring,’ and by that point, she was 18 and 19 and was coming into her womanhood and learning about her desirability and sexuality. During her transition, she says she was “sort of being groomed, in a way, to be this what you call a bombshell-type actor.”

“Bombshell” refers to a type of actor that exudes sexuality and whose sole purpose is to be ogled.

Johansson has stated that she often finds herself typecast as playing “the other woman” or the “object of desire” of the male character. She went on to say that she was helpless trying to escape it and felt trapped.

The candidate for the Academy Award went on to say, “It would be easy probably to sit across from someone in that situation and go, ‘This is working’ … But for that kind of bombshell, you know, that burns bright and quick and then it’s done, and you don’t have opportunity beyond that … It just was an interesting, weird conundrum to be in but it really came back to working at it and trying to carve a place in different projects and work in great ensembles.”

Johansson said she felt she became objectified and pigeonholed in a way where it felt like she wasn’t getting offers for work for things she wanted to do.

“I think everybody thought I was older … I got kind of pigeonholed into this weird hyper-sexualized thing,” she lamented.

A remarkable beauty, Johansson, sadly, said she had the impression that her professional life was over. It’s one of the perils of being known as “eye candy” and not a “serious” actress.

“Asteroid City,” directed by Wes Anderson, will debut in June 2023 and will feature Johansson in a starring role.
