Biden Announces Blacklist Of 200 Companies

(HorizonPost.com) – As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches its one-year anniversary, the Biden White House decided to impose sanctions on 200 individuals and entities targeting Russia, according to The Daily Mail

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced the financial costs mounting for Russia in its “illegal war” during her visit to India with U.K. finance minister Jeremy Hunt. But the sanctions reportedly include a variety of other sectors including, defense and technology.

Yellen stated that the goal was to interrupt the supply chains of the Russian military, negatively impact the Kremlin’s revenue, and make it tougher for Putin to procure military equipment. The comments come as President Joe Biden visited Kyiv in mid-February and announced that he is going to financially subsidize Ukraine’s government pensions with U.S. tax dollars. https://twitter.com/stillgray/status/1626736360743931909?s=20

In a statement from the White House, the sanctions will target Russia’s financial institutions and individuals currently operating in Ukraine, parties responsible for giving sanctioned items to Russia, and Russia’s energy capabilities while recognizing the dependence Europe has on the country for its own energy.

Russian metals, minerals, and chemicals that are valued at around $2.8 billion will be hit with tariffs, according to the White House. The efforts are to be further discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a meeting that will be closed to the press and public.

The Russian-Ukrainian war reached a new height last month when a report came out that the U.S. was responsible for the demolition of the Nord Stream pipelines. While the Pentagon and White House deny involvement, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh detailed the operation, according to American Pigeon

The controversy brought to light previous comments made by the president after the war began. “If Russia invades—that means tanks or troops crossing the border of Ukraine, again — then there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2,” Biden said. “We will bring an end to it.”
