City Calls for More Police Amid Crime Surge

(HorizonPost.com) – Democrats across the country have been pushing localities to defund the police even as crime rises. Cities like New York, Portland, Minneapolis and others are seeing increases in shootings and other violent crimes. However, not every city and state wants to attack first responders.

On July 20, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson (D) said he wants to hire 275 more police officers next year. He also wants to increase the pay for first responders. The president of the Black Police Association of Greater Dallas, Terrance Hopkins, said every cop counts and crime can rise when there aren’t enough officers on the streets. This is partly due to the mass resignations across the country. Officers have been under constant attack from the Left and morale is low.

Dallas, more than many other cities, knows how important police are. They’re also acutely aware of what happens when someone paints all cops with a broad brush. In 2016, the Dallas PD lost five police officers after they were targeted by a sniper who believed cops are racist.

Dallas is not alone, either. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) recently announced $1,000 bonuses for first responders in his state. Like Mayor Johnson, the governor understands police officers make it possible for people to live in peace. Ensuring they have proper funding is the only way to make that happen. Perhaps if Democrats got on board, crime rates wouldn’t be rising in the cities they run.
