CNN Poll Shows Most Americans Are Quietly Hoping Trump Fails

(HorizonPost.com) – A poll conducted by CNN showed that most Americans are in support of the indictment brought against Donald Trump by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, according to The Daily Wire. More than half of Americans were polled in support of what Brianna Lyman from The Daily Caller called “political persecution” despite not knowing what exact charges were being levied against the former president.

Jake Tapper explained the results of the poll which was conducted between March 31 and April 1. It reportedly broke down Americans into the three political parties. 94% of Democrats and 62% of Independents were in support of the indictment, including only 21% of Republicans who voiced their support as well.

Taken all together, nearly two-thirds, or 60%, of those who were polled support the indictment. But critics were quick to mention what was particularly unsettling—that no charges were yet disclosed to the public when they were asked, meaning they supported something they knew very little about.

The poll was given some more context by Joshua Kraushaar. 58% of respondents reportedly had an overwhelmingly negative view of Trump compared to 34% that had a favorable view, which is four points lower than the number of Americans that currently favor Joe Biden. Despite the majority supporting the indictment without any knowledge of the charges, only 37% of respondents see the payments to Stormy Daniels as illegal.

Since the indictment, Trump is looking at 34 charges in connection to business fraud and the payments made to Stormy Daniels which was allegedly intended to cover up an affair, according to Newsweek. History was made as Trump becomes the first U.S. president to be indicted. Trump, who is facing over 100 years in prison if found guilty on all counts, ascertained his innocence and pleaded not guilty.
