(HorizonPost.com) – House Oversight Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) last weekend compared the former Trump administration’s “public philosophy” to that of Russian President Vladimir Putin, The Hill reported.
While appearing on ABC’s “This Week” last Sunday to discuss the ongoing House Oversight Committee investigation into the Biden family’s foreign business dealings, Raskin was asked if he was at all concerned about Hunter Biden’s apparent influence peddling. The ranking member deflected, choosing instead to speak in more general terms.
Raskin said he has been asking Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) to allow the committee to conduct “a serious analysis” of the kind of laws needed to address public officials and their family members who make money working in the government. He then specifically cited the foreign business dealings of former President Donald Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Raskin said the former Trump administration developed a public philosophy that government is “an instrument” for “self-enrichment” rather than an instrument for the common good, suggesting that Trump’s philosophy is similar to how President Putin views government.
Congress investigated Trump’s business dealings during his presidency when Democrats held the House. But Raskin complained that the Republican House is only focusing on the business dealings of the current president and his family instead of continuing to investigate the former president.
He asked when Comer would release a report on the millions in “foreign government emoluments” from the hotels at Trump’s golf clubs and other business deals that the former president “pocketed” during his presidency. Raskin claimed that in their investigation of Hunter Biden, the Republicans have been unable to show any criminal corruption directly linked to President Biden.
On Thursday, Chairman Comer sent a letter to Colleen Shogan, the chief archivist at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) requesting special access to unredacted versions of all emails involving then-Vice President Biden, Hunter Biden, Ukraine, and Burisma. Comer is also requesting all communications and documents in which then-Vice President Biden’s pseudonyms, Robert Peters, Robin Ware, and JRB Ware, appear.
