(HorizonPost.com) – Crime in Chicago reportedly increased in 2021, marking it the most violent year the city has seen in more than two decades. In December, Chicago 911 dispatcher Keith Thornton took to Facebook to slam Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot for what he perceives as her failure. He went on to say the “blood is on her hands.” Police Superintendent David Brown blames the majority of the spike on fights between rival gangs in the city. However, Thornton believes the mayor hasn’t done enough to keep the city safe after eliminating empty positions and allowing the ranks to dwindle.
Keith Thornton, amongst many others in the Chicago area, can no longer deny or ignore Lori Lightfoot’s failed leadership and are finally speaking out. #TheFive

In light of the increase in violence, Lightfoot is asking for federal reinforcements to help the Windy City. During a speech in December, the mayor alleged city police are working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to seize illegal firearms and trace them back to their source in an attempt to reduce gun violence. Although Lightfoot claims to have taken a record number of guns off the street in 2021, she still called on US Attorney General Merrick Garland for federal resources for further help.
Unfortunately, any assistance at this point seems a bit late for some critics. Thornton believes the mayor doesn’t care about first responders, much less the city itself. He said residents in Chicago are tired of it.
