Alluding to mainstream media’s portrayal of AR-15 style weapons as evil incarnate, he recited the 2019 statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He says these show 252 people were murdered with a knife while only 34 fell victim to any type of rifle. He also pointedly addressed what the Supreme Court said the Second Amendment might not cover, such as “bazookas, howitzers, or machineguns,” of which the arms under consideration are most assuredly not.
He delayed the effective date of this order by 30 days so that California will have the chance to mount an appeal with the 9th Circuit Court, which embattled Governor Gavin Newsom (D). For now, proponents of the Second Amendment can bask on one of the state’s sunny beaches, enjoying a rare victory.
