(HorizonPost.com) – Controversy continues swirling around British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell. The former girlfriend and business associate of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein currently awaits trial in a federal detention facility on charges related to Epstein’s abuse of underage girls.
Lawyers working for Maxwell asked for a bond of $28.5 million in a proposed bail package that included the 24/7 use of armed guards at her New York residence to ensure her safety and compliance with the terms of her release.

Under the proposal, Maxwell would put up $22.5 million of the bond, and friends and family would guarantee the remainder. Her lawyers attempted to submit the bail request at a secret hearing. However, federal prosecutors argued against the proposal, noting it denied her accusers the right to be present at any hearing regarding her potential release from custody.
The court did not set a date for a ruling on the motion. However, US District Judge Alison Nathan unsealed the bail request on December 14.
