GOP Lawmakers Under Fire For Voting Against Trump

GOP Lawmakers Who Voted Against Trump Under Fire

(HorizonPost.com) – Last week, Democrats insisted on holding a trial to impeach former President Donald Trump for a second time. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) explained on Twitter why it really was a sham and offered a grim prospect because of how Liberals weaponized the Constitution.

Although they failed to convict, seven Republican senators did use this opportunity to cement their places as never-Trumpers in the history books. Here are the GOP lawmakers who voted against him:

  • Richard Burr (NC)
  • Bill Cassidy (LA)
  • Susan Collins (ME)
  • Lisa Murkowski (AK)
  • Mitt Romney (UT)
  • Ben Sasse (NE)
  • Pat Toomey (PA)

Several of these lawmakers are already facing backlash for voting to convict. For example, Chairman Michael Whatley in North Carolina released a statement after the trial calling Burr’s decision “shocking and disappointing.” Meanwhile, the Twitter account for the Republican Party of Louisiana came out against Cassidy’s vote to convict, showing gratitude that “clearer heads prevailed” to acquit Trump.

According to reports from Fox News, both Richard Burr and Pat Toomey previously confirmed that they wouldn’t be running for re-election. It’s still unclear what the futures of the other GOP Senators will be.
