(HorizonPost.com) – A woman working in New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s administration has accused 2024 Democrat Senate Candidate, New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy, of failing to help her after she was raped by one of Governor Phil Murphy’s campaign aides in 2018, the New York Post reported.
Tammy Murphy recently announced that she would challenge incumbent Democrat Senator Robert Menedez in the 2024 primary after Menendez and his wife Nadine were indicted on federal charges.
Katie Brennan, the executive director of New York Storm Recovery/Resilience, Homes, and Communities, told the New York Post that Murphy should not be allowed to serve in the Senate. She said she thought that Murphy would have been sympathetic to her after she was raped, but “she was not.”
In January 2019, Brennan sued the state of New Jersey and Governor Murphy’s gubernatorial campaign over claims that his campaign advisor Albert Alvarez raped her while she was volunteering for his campaign. Brennan alleged that her allegations were never properly investigated.
The lawsuit was settled in 2020 for $1 million that was paid by the campaign and the state of New Jersey.
No criminal charges were ever filed against Alvarez who was dismissed from the Murphy administration after Brennan’s accusations first went public.
An independent review by the New Jersey legislature found that Murphy’s campaign botched its response to Brennan’s allegation and passed legislation to ensure rape allegations are better handled by the state in the future.
Brennan, who is supporting Democrat Congressman Andy Kim in New Jersey’s Democratic Senate primary, went to the New York Post to try and scuttle Tammy Murphy’s chances in the 2024 primary.
She provided a copy of an email she sent to both Phil Murphy and his wife in June 2018 asking to meet with them to discuss the assault. Tammy Murphy did not respond. Instead, Phil Murphy responded on behalf of himself and his wife saying the email would be forwarded to “our respective teams” who would schedule something.
