(HorizonPost.com) – Over the weekend, Iran warned that if Israel’s “war crimes” and “genocide” against the people of Gaza were not stopped, the situation could have “far-reaching consequences,” Reuters reported.
In a post on social media, the Iranian mission to the United Nations warned that the responsibility for stopping “the Israeli apartheid’s war crimes & genocide” lies with the United Nations, the UN Security Council, and the countries that are “steering the Council toward a dead end.”
On Tuesday, Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei echoed the sentiment, warning that if Israel continues to kill Palestinian civilians, “no one will be able to stop Muslims and resistance forces.”
Speaking to a group of Iranian academics, Khamenei said Muslims “will become impatient” and “no one would be able to stop them.”
Khamenei dismissed the barbaric massacre Hamas terrorists committed in Isreal on October 7, suggesting that even if the Israelis killed were civilians, the number of Palestinian civilians killed by the “occupation’s regime” is “a hundred times more.” He demanded that the “Zionist regime” be “put on trial today.”
Meanwhile, officials from the United States have been working to prevent Iran from getting involved in the conflict while engaging in broader diplomacy to prevent the conflict from sparking action from other countries in the region, like Lebanon and Syria.
The Iranian-backed terror group Hezbollah which operates in southern Lebanon clashed with Israeli forces multiple times since last weekend’s deadly terror attack by Hamas.
Tuesday morning, National Security spokesman John Kirby told “CBS Mornings” that the administration has made “significant progress” on a “framework” to provide humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Israel’s wartime cabinet on Monday to develop a plan to ensure humanitarian assistance can flow directly from countries or organizations to civilians.
Kirby said the administration is hopeful that this aid will be getting to the people who need it soon.
