Matt Gaetz Says He Would Resign If He Had to Defend Trump at Impeachment Trial

(HorizonPost.com) – Former President Donald Trump is facing his second impeachment trial in the United States Senate in a bald-faced political attempt to stop him from ever holding office again. Some Republicans — and, apparently, ALL the Democrats — on Capitol Hill seemed oblivious to the fact that almost 75 million people supported him for a reason. Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is not one of them, as evidenced by his words and willingness to take action if needed.

In an interview on Steve Bannon’s podcast “War Room Pandemic,” the Congressman praised the ex-president calling him “one of the greatest presidents our country has ever had, maybe the [emphasis added] greatest president…” He also expressed his willingness to put his money where his mouth is and said he would resign his seat in the House of Representatives if he were called upon to become a part of the impeachment defense team.

Gaetz’s admiration for and loyalty to the former President Trump and his legacy are awe-inspiring. It’s hard to imagine any Democrat in the House or Senate sacrificing an elected seat to defend anyone or anything beyond themselves altruistically. Yet Gaetz has stepped forward and offered to potentially sacrifice his long-term career to save Trump’s reputation, legacy, and political future. Perhaps all Republicans should take note of this nearly Biblical lesson from Gaetz. As quoted from John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this…”
