(HorizonPost.com) – The idea of celebrities running for — and actually winning — public office is nothing new. After all, Ronald Reagan was the governor of California and the President of the United States, while Arnold Schwarzenegger also held the highest office in the Golden State. Therefore, it should not surprise anyone that Matthew McConaughey (whose acting credits include Dazed and Confused, Magic Mike, and The Dark Tower, according to IMDb) has publicly said that he’s “measuring” the idea of running for Governor of Texas in 2022.
Matthew McConaughey still 'measuring' Texas gubernatorial run; polling well against Abbott, O'Rourke https://t.co/FCgW6KVRAg @FoxNews

Former United States Congressman for Texas, Beto O’Rourke, has also declared his interest in seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination for the spot. This statistic led the Dallas Morning News to pose questions about hypothetical matchups for each of them against the current Republican Governor Greg Abbott to a pool of registered voters. In the case of McConaughey v. Abbott, the overall numbers show the governor trailing 44%-35%. When broken down by party affiliations, the results reflect what one would expect, with 65% of Democrats leaning towards the actor and 63% of Republicans for the governor.
When asked about a battle with O’Rourke, the governor fares better at 42/37% along party lines. The party splits are even more lopsided, with 71% of Democrats for the former Congressman and 75% of Republicans for the governor. The results seem to indicate a presumption that McConaughey would run as a Democrat, but the pollsters did not pose a question asking about what might happen in a primary race between the two men.
