Nancy Pelosi Asked Whether She Plans to Run for Reelection

(HorizonPost.com) – It’s hard to remember a time when Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wasn’t in the House of Representatives; she won her seat back in 1987. During her tenure, she touted the position of the first female Speaker and House minority leader. But will she hang up her gavel in 2022? In an October 24 interview with Jake Tapper on State of the Union, the seasoned legislator danced around the question of whether she intends to run for her 19th term in the upcoming midterms.

Instead of answering, she said she intends to discuss her options with her family before announcing her decision.

Although Pelosi said this term would be her last in 2018, the slim Democratic majority in the House may be enough to change her mind. Representative Jim Cooper (D-TN) believes the Biden administration not only needs the Speaker to stay, but he says she’s “indispensable” to Congress.

Still, some believe she’ll step down and make room for others to hold the position.

While it’s true that few could match the long-time politician’s experience, there will come a time for the 81-year-old to step down. Because she keeps her plans close to the vest, Americans probably won’t know what she will do until the March 11 deadline.
