Former Official Claims Russia’s Elite Are Souring On Putin
(HorizonPost.com) – In the midst of the current conflict in Ukraine, a former foreign minister of Ukraine claims that a group of individuals close to Vladimir Putin is secretly planning how to remove him from office.
According to Volodymyr Ohryzko’s opinion piece, which was published in The New Voice of Ukraine on Tuesday, these ostensibly private meetings are intended to remove Putin to protect the interests of the participants.
Ohryzko wrote that Putin is obviously unaware of what is going on behind his back. But a group of people who stand on Putin’s side or above or below him (it doesn’t matter), who will lose a lot from the current, utterly catastrophic situation for Russia, will definitely think about how to exchange Putin for their security, for further financial gain, and to return to their previous paradise life in the West.
Ohryzko, who held the position of Ukraine’s foreign minister from 2007 to 2009, stated that he was “convinced that these private conversations have been going on for a long time.”
These were “groundless allegations that have nothing to do with reality,” according to Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s press secretary, who Newsweek approached for confirmation and comment.
Although Putin and the Ukraine conflict have received primarily good coverage from Russian authorities and the state media, several outsiders and organizations have argued that things may not be as rosy in the background. Less than a month after the conflict broke out in late February of this year, in March, the military intelligence service of Ukraine said that Russian elites had plotted to depose Putin due to the aftermath of the universally denounced invasion.
According to a May report from a private Russian news source, more and more members of Russia’s elite classes were becoming disenchanted with Putin and the conflict. According to the study, the majority of Kremlin and ministry officials were “horrified” by the invasion of Ukraine and were worried that Western sanctions would endanger their lives.
Russian apparatchiks have been known to disappear into the ether in the past.
