Republicans Make Counter-offer for Infrastructure

( – When Americans needed help dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, house Democrats would not budge unless the Republican-controlled Senate agreed to add some of their pet social programs. Moving along to infrastructure, President Joe Biden unveiled a $2.3 trillion proposal with that label on it, but, as some Conservative lawmakers noted, only about 5% of that mammoth amount of money would actually go to roads and bridges, with much of the rest going to social programs.

Socialist Agenda

Infrastructure helps all the country’s citizens with safe roads, bridges, water supply, and the like. In recent years, it has been expanded to include items like broadband communications as the world has become much more digital.

The Progressive Liberals, however, seem intent on expanding the definition of “infrastructure” to include things like eldercare. Cecilia Rouse — chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers — claims she can only work because her parents receive care, justifying why eldercare fits under an infrastructure heading. On the Social Justice Warrior (SJW) front, Democrats want to address the idea of remedying the “racist history of America’s highway system,” as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg put it.

A Republican Alternative

Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), working with several others, released the “Republican Roadmap,” which carries a price tag of “just” $568 billion, focused solely on what most Americans understand “infrastructure” to mean. Unlike the Democrat proposal, it does so without any tax increases or removing the tax cuts that President Donald Trump installed in 2017.

The proposed money would go to projects including but not limited to:

  • $299 billion on roads/bridges
  • $61 billion for public transit
  • $44 billion for airports

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Democrat response to this idea has been negative. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said, “[it] does not meet the moment,” and Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) hinted that it’s not enough to prevent Liberals from pushing through their version. The Democrats in Congress have proven their Agenda is more important to them than the American people by their handling of the COVID-19 relief bill while President Trump was in office. Now, it appears they’re letting America crumble – literally – for the same reason.
