(HorizonPost.com) – Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis gave his State of the State address before the legislature on March 2, 2021. He struck an upbeat note during his speech when he described how the state handled the COVID-19 pandemic.
DeSantis said the Sunshine State is “the envy of residents of other states” who are dealing with shutdowns, school closures, and other restrictions. He pointed out the campaign’s success in vaccinating and protecting senior citizens aged 65+ and told lawmakers of the massive decline in hospitalizations (80%) and the overall number of cases (71%) among that demographic. The governor also discussed the lessened impact upon school children by continuing to offer in-person classroom learning.
Line from this DeSantis speech:
“Because of those efforts, the sun is rising here in Florida — and the Sunshine State will soon reach new horizons.” https://t.co/xctA2v5diW

Addressing all the rioting and targeting of police officers in other states, he said Florida “will not permit localities” to put residents in danger by trying to defund the police. Overall, his speech highlighted the positives over the past year and outlined his politically Conservative plan of action for moving forward.
