(HorizonPost.com) – The press has bandied about the term “debt ceiling” in recent weeks. It’s a law limiting how much money the Treasury Department can borrow to pay the government’s bills, and that limit was fast approaching. Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) came to an agreement with the Democrats, allowing them to raise that level until December 2021.
There is so much misinformation about this so let’s be clear: 11 Republicans did NOT vote to raise the debt ceiling.
ZERO Republicans voted to raise the debt ceiling.
11 Republicans simply voted to end the filibuster to allow the vote.

In response, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) wasted no time going completely off the rails and dashing any goodwill. A CNN editorial analysis described it as “tantamount to running in front of them and spiking the ball in their face,” referring to an unsportsmanlike act in the NFL. In the video of his gloating session on the Senate floor, viewers can see Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) shaking his head and then lowering his face into his hands.
Senator McConnell fired back, given Schumer’s childish display and seeming lack of awareness that McConnell based his actions on compromise rather than surrender. He sent a letter to President Joe Biden informing him the example of pettiness has reduced the possibility for future cooperation to roughly… zero. Citing “Senator Schumer’s hysterics” and the out-of-control spending bills he says help China, he wrote, “I will not be a party to any future effort to mitigate the consequences of Democratic mismanagement.”
