US Representative Helps Elderly Couple Escape Afghanistan

(HorizonPost.com) – President Joe Biden ordered the last military forces in Kabul, Afghanistan, to leave the country on August 30. At that time, he left at least 100 American citizens trapped in a place where Islamic Sharia Law suddenly was the rule of the land. But that hasn’t stopped some from trying to extract those left behind, like Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA), who just announced an octogenarian couple was the most recent to be liberated.

The elderly pair’s granddaughter, who lives in the congressman’s home district in San Diego, contacted the legislator, and her plea did not fall on deaf ears. Issa’s office issued a press release, dated September 15, detailing how the lawmaker’s team worked “almost countless hours [and that they] simply would not give up, and today it paid off and we got them home.”

The message also said the unnamed couple is the latest of 33 people from his congressional district they helped bring home. The total includes “other Americans and SIV visa holders (Afghan nationals who assisted Americans).” Representative Issa is not alone in his efforts. Representative Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) reportedly flew to the region to help with an extraction. Others who stepped up to help include Representatives Elisa Slotkin (D-MI), Michael Waltz (R-FL), and Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA).
