(HorizonPost.com) – In August 2019, Harry Dunn, a teenager, was struck and killed by an automobile in Northamptonshire, England. While that tragedy might be of interest to Britains, one might wonder why it should concern Americans. Well, to quote the late Paul Harvey “now, the rest of the story…”
The driver of the car was Anne Sacoolas, the wife of a US diplomat who, by her own admission, was driving on the wrong side of the road when the accident occurred. Instead of accepting responsibility and helping to give his parents a measure of closure, she claimed diplomatic immunity and fled the country and any culpability she may have had.
Despite confirmation that Anne Sacoolas did have diplomatic immunity when she left 🇬🇧, it is extraordinary that US Gov still refuse to waive it, given circs.@realdonaldtrump closed the loophole she escaped through; will @JoeBiden now give @Justice4Harry? 🙏🏻

On November 24, 2020, a British court determined that under the laws at the time, her claim was valid. One small solace that might be taken from this tragedy is that it prompted the two countries to amend their agreement and make it more difficult to claim diplomatic immunity in future situations. Unfortunately, that gives no redress to Harry’s parents and no measure of justice to Harry.
