JD Vance Embraces Biden’s Election Withdrawal

(HorizonPost.com) – Republican nominee Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance were quick to respond to President Joe Biden’s stunning announcement on Sunday that he was withdrawing his name for the Democrat nomination for president and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him.

The president, who made his announcement not in a television address but in a letter posted on social media, said he had decided not to run for reelection for the good of the country and the Democrat Party.

In a follow-up post, Biden said that Vice President Harris had his “full support and endorsement” for the Democrat nomination and called on the party to unite to defeat Donald Trump.

In a post on X later that afternoon, Senator Vance described Biden as the “worst President in my lifetime” and noted that Vice President Harris was there beside Biden “every step of the way.”

The Republican vice-presidential nominee said Harris “co-signed” the president’s open border and “green scam policies” that have driven up costs. He also accused the vice president of lying about President Biden’s cognitive decline and helping to saddle the country “with a president who can’t do the job.”

In a phone interview with CBS News correspondent Robert Costa, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump described Biden’s announcement as a “shock to the country” and suggested that the Democrats pushed President Biden out of the race.

Trump told Costa that while it still wasn’t clear that the Democrats would select Harris as the nominee at the convention if she did get the nod, it would have no impact on how his campaign proceeded. He explained that his campaign is running against the Biden administration’s record, regardless of which Biden administration official ended up at the top of the ticket.

Trump suggested that Vice President Harris was “no better” than Biden, and said that she would be “far less competent.” He added that recent polling showed that he would do better against Harris than he would against Biden.
