(HorizonPost.com) – Tech billionaire Elon Musk announced last week that he would be moving SpaceX’s headquarters, as well as his social media platform X, out of California to the state of Texas.
Musk’s decision was ostensibly prompted by California Governor Gavin Newsom signing the SAFETY Act, a measure that prevents school districts in the state from notifying parents if a child claims to be transgender.
In a post on X, Musk described the law as the “final straw,” and said it, along with many other California laws before it that “attacked both families and companies,” prompted him to move the Space X headquarters to the new company city of Starbase, Texas.
Musk also confirmed that he was moving X’s headquarters from San Francisco to Austin, Texas.
In a follow-up post, Musk said he warned Governor Newsom last year that laws like the SAFETY Act would force companies and families to leave the state “to protect their children.”
One of Musk’s sons petitioned a court in California in 2022 to change his name to Vivian Jenna Wilson, saying he no longer wanted to share his father’s last name because of Musk’s criticism of the transgender movement.
In his post confirming that his social media platform X would also be moving to Austin, Texas, the tech billionaire explained that he was tired of having to dodge drug addicts on the way in and out of the San Francisco headquarters.
Musk has been slowly transferring his various companies to Texas over the past several years, starting with his electric vehicle company Tesla, which moved to Austin, Texas in 2021.
SpaceX’s incorporation was transferred from Delaware to Texas in February after a judge in the state struck down Tesla’s $56 billion compensation plan.
Musk announced in December 2020 that he too would be moving to Texas along with Tesla.
Musk’s latest move comes just days after the outspoken billionaire endorsed Donald Trump for president and announced that he was donating $45 million a month to a new super PAC aligned with the Republican nominee.
