(HorizonPost.com) – Antifa, the far-left extremist group, attacked a future cop training location known as “cop city” in Atlanta last week, according to The Post Millennial. A news account affiliated with the domestic terrorist group posted updates on Twitter, writing that “People are smashing and destroying the outpost’s remains…a security light post is on fire.”
Reporter Billy Heath also took to Twitter to issue updates, writing that the construction site for the future facility was on fire as “protestors” threw Molotov cocktails at police. The Atlanta Police Department noted that large rocks, bricks, and fireworks were also thrown.
According to Andy Ngo, who has extensively reported on the operations of Antifa and how they recruit and plan, the riot was premeditated and was announced on social media weeks before the attack. Ngo attributed the attack to a previous incident, saying that Antifa was retaliating against officers after their comrade was shot and killed.
In late January, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation raided the “autonomous zone” that would become the officer training facility. The zone was reportedly occupied by Antifa militants. After Antifa shot a Georgia State Patrol trooper, officers returned fire and killed the gunman. Seven militants were then charged with domestic terrorism.
Among the dozen Antifa retaliators was a Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) staff attorney, according to National Review. The SPLC has previously designated conservative groups as “domestic terrorists” and called the police response against Thomas Jurgens “heavy-handed.”
The left-wing activist group also vowed to remain against “white supremacy” and said they will continue to support the “de-escalation of violence and police use of force against Black, Brown and Indigenous communities.”
Atlanta police chief Darin Schierbaum reportedly said that only two of the individuals charged were from Georgia, while two others were not from the country. He also said that the department is continuing to see this trend with other rioters.
