(HorizonPost.com) – A Los Angeles man was sentenced to 340 years in state prison on July 12 after being found guilty of multiple molestation and rape charges.
Eduardo Perez Hernandez, 47, an ex-con who was previously convicted for a 2001 attempted robbery, was described as a “habitual” offender during his sentencing hearing last week.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Eleanor Hunter told Perez Hernandez that habitually abused young relatives, preying on “the most vulnerable people” at his disposal. She said he deserved “every single day” of the 340-year sentence.
It was Perez Hernandez’s previous robbery conviction that doubled his sentence from 170 years to 340 years.
The predator was convicted by a Los Angeles County jury in June on 14 counts, including forcible rape, molestation of a minor, intercourse with a child under 10, and lewd acts with a child under 14 and a child 14 to 15.
According to prosecutors, one of the young girls admitted at a 2015 doctor’s appointment that she had been raped by Perez Hernandez, but he was not charged at the time.
Perez Hernandez was not arrested until February 2023 after another girl admitted the abuse to a teacher, prosecutors said.
Perez Hernandez’s sentencing comes a month after a California man was sentenced to 53 years for assaulting five women between 2017 and 2020.
A Ventura County jury in May convicted 42-year-old Edgar Rodriguez Ruelas of five felonies related to the assaults which began on June 15, 2017, when he entered an apartment in Thousand Oaks through an unlocked door and attempted to rape a 25-year-old woman before fleeing the scene.
Ruelas then stalked and attacked a woman who was hiking in Thousand Oaks’ Wildwood Regional Park in the early morning of July 14, 2017.
The following October, Ruelas again entered an apartment and raped a woman while her boyfriend slept in the bed beside her. When the boyfriend awoke, he chased Ruelas out of the apartment and the two got into a struggle before Ruelas broke free and ran away.
In April 2019, Ruelas again attacked a woman on a hiking trail and attempted to assault her. However, she told him people knew where she was and Ruelas ran away.
The final attack occurred in March 2020 on a hiking trail in Oak Park. This time, Ruelas attacked a 16-year-old girl who fought him off with the instrument she was carrying and escaped.
