NATO Accuses China of Aiding Russia in Ukraine

(HorizonPost.com) – The 32 NATO member countries accused China of being an enabler of Russia’s war in Ukraine in a declaration released last Wednesday during the alliance’s 75th Anniversary Summit in Washington.

The 38-point final declaration, which also included a separate pledge to continue security assistance for Ukraine, was approved by the alliance members who, along with their Indo-Pacific partners, voiced increasing concerns about Russia’s deepening ties with both China and North Korea.

The declaration also expressed concerns over China’s growing nuclear arsenal and the expansion of its space program.

Beijing, which has denied providing military assistance to Moscow, accused NATO of attempting to incite confrontation in the Indo-Pacific.

The member countries said in the declaration that Beijing’s “no-limits partnership” with Moscow, coupled with its broad support for Russia’s military-industrial base, has made it a “decisive enabler” of the war in Ukraine.

They declared that China has increased the threat Moscow poses to its European neighbors and the security of the European-Atlantic region.

They prevailed on China in its role as a permanent member of the UN Security Council to “uphold the purposes and principles” of the UN Charter and cease its “material and political support” of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The declaration warned that China would not be permitted to continue enabling Europe’s largest conflict since World War Two without there being a negative impact on its “interests and reputation.”

The member countries also accused China of being behind the malicious cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns waged on the West and the Indo-Pacific region.

In response to the declaration, Liu Pengyu, the spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington DC, insisted that Beijing did not provide military support to either side in the war. He described China’s trade relations with Russia as “beyond reproach” and asserted that everything was “done aboveboard.”

Liu said that NATO’s decision to smear China as a threat to Europe was “completely futile.” He accused the member countries of using the war in Ukraine to gin up a new Cold War with Russia and China.
