(HorizonPost.com) – Following the House testimony from two IRS whistleblowers on the Justice Department’s obstruction of the investigation into Hunter Biden, new details about the US Attorney’s Office in Delaware have emerged.
The New York Post reported over the weekend that US Attorney David Weiss, the Trump appointee who has overseen the yearslong investigation, is the son of disgraced IRS agent Meyer Weiss.
The elder Weiss was convicted in 1985 of taking over $200,000 from businessmen hoping to avert federal tax laws, according to the nonprofit group Marco Polo. Meyer Weiss was sentenced to four years and fined $100,000.
According to court records, the elder Weiss used the bribe money to pay for David’s college and law school tuition.
On Tuesday, the Washington Examiner reported that one of the people who worked in the Delaware US Attorney’s Office while it was investigating Hunter is a close associate of the Biden family.
Alexander Mackler previously served as then-Senator Biden’s press secretary before becoming legal counsel for then-Vice President Biden. After the 2020 election, Mackler served on the Biden transition team helping to craft the blueprint for the incoming administration’s Justice Department.
In addition to managing the late Beau Biden’s campaign for Delaware attorney general in 2010, Mackler also has a close, personal relationship with Hunter, based on emails found on Hunter’s abandoned laptop, the Examiner reported.
Mackler worked for US Attorney David Weiss from August 2016 to May 2019.
In May, IRS whistleblower Joseph Ziegler told the House Ways and Means Committee that the Delaware US Attorney’s Office took over the investigation into Hunter’s foreign business deals in January 2019.
Even after Mackler began working for the Delaware US Attorney’s Office, he was still involved with the Biden family, according to Hunter’s emails.
For example, Meckler helped edit the public statements about the launch of the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Biden Center in Washington while he was working for the US Attorney.
Mackler currently works for Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings.
