Christie Slams Trump Over Events Of 2020

(HorizonPost.com) – Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie blasted Donald Trump last Tuesday after the Justice Department indicted the former president on four counts related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, saying Trump’s behavior was a “disgrace,” The Hill reported.

In the latest indictment, special counsel Jack Smith accuses Trump and his campaign of knowingly making false claims that the 2020 election was stolen and pressuring federal and state officials to alter the election results, despite knowing that the claims were untrue.

The indictment outlines in detail the scheme Trump and his allies concocted to assemble a slate of fraudulent electors in multiple states and their subsequent attempts to coerce then-Vice President Mike Pence to replace the electors certified by the states with the fraudulent slate of electors when Congress met to certify the election on January 6, 2021.

In a tweet last Tuesday, Christie described the events that occurred after the 2020 election as a “stain on our country’s history” and a “disgrace to the people who participated.” Christie said most of the disgrace falls on Trump, arguing that Trump violated his “oath to the Constitution” and “brought shame to his presidency.”

The 45-page indictment accuses Trump of attempting to obstruct a “bedrock function” of democracy by engaging in a campaign of “fraud,” “dishonesty,” and “conceit.”

After the special counsel submitted a superseding indictment in the classified documents case, Christie said in an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Trump might be “out on bail in four different jurisdictions” by the first Republican primary debate in late August.

Christie also slammed the Trump campaign for using the Save America PAC to pay Trump’s legal fees, saying for the former president, it isn’t America First but “Trump First.”

Former Vice President Pence also hit Donald Trump over the latest indictment, saying in a statement last Tuesday that the indictment is “an important reminder” that someone who puts himself above the Constitution should not be President.
