NARA Emails Show Discreet Handling Of Biden’s Boston Document Retrieval

(HorizonPost.com) – Newly released emails reveal that officials from the National Archives quickly arranged the quiet recovery of nine boxes of Joe Biden’s records from a Boston law office last year, the Washington Examiner reported.

The National Archives and Records Administration informed Congress in March of the existence of the boxes. However, emails obtained via a FOIA request shed new light on the context surrounding the National Archives’ arrangement to secure them.

The emails, published this week, give a broader picture of what the National Archives did after learning in November of last year of the records located in Boston.

On the night of the 2022 midterm election, a top official with the National Archives sent an email to a colleague with the subject line, “Urgent Matter.” In the email, the official instructed his colleague to send two staffers to retrieve and secure records from the Boston law office of attorney Pat Moore “with the utmost professionalism and discretion.”

In her March letter to Congress, Chief Archivist Debra Wall revealed that the National Archives had retrieved nine boxes from the law office on November 9, 2022, and delivered them to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston.

According to Wall, attorneys for President Biden informed the National Archives on November 3, 2022, that Moore removed the boxes from the Biden Penn Center in Washington and took them to his office in Boston. The Justice Department instructed the National Archives to retrieve the boxes and transfer them to the nearest secure facility, namely, the JFK Presidential Library, Wall wrote.

The new emails chronicle how quickly the Biden administration acted to quietly retrieve the records.

The White House later confirmed that some of the documents found at the Biden Penn Center contained classified markings. However, the nature of the materials retrieved from Moore’s Boston office remains unconfirmed.

An investigation into the classified documents retained by Biden is underway, headed up by special counsel Robert Hur. Currently, the status of Hur’s investigation is unclear. Last month, the White House confirmed that Hur interviewed President Biden concerning his inquiry.
